Range of Motion: Spine Rotation

range of motion Jun 30, 2023

Testing Spine Rotation range of motion with an inclinometer involves the following steps:

  1. Have the client adopt an upright standing or seated position. As this is a rotational test, the Measurz inclinometer will utilise the transverse plane feature.
  2. Locate the inferior aspect of the scapula and align the Measurz inclinometer in a horizontal orientation across the client’s thoracic wall.
  3. Ensure the Mearuz inclinometer is set at 0 degrees, before instructing the client to rotate as far as they can whilst maintaining a neutral pelvic alignment.
  4. Once maximal range of motion is achieved, hit the pause/play, followed by the save button to record and view the results.

The normal range for Spine Rotation range of motion can vary depending on a person's age, gender, and overall health. However, generally, the normal range for Spine Rotation is considered to be between 70-90 degrees.
