Strength Isometric Test: Wrist Extension
Jul 10, 2023To test wrist extension isometric strength with a handheld dynamometer, you can follow these steps:
- Have the client adopt a supine position, lying flat on a massage table or mat, with the testing elbow locked out straight by their side. The client’s elbow should be pronated for this test.
- In the name of added comfort for the client, the practitioner may wish to use a small towel or soft lining between the Muscle Meter and the metacarpals where the device will be positioned.
- Ensuring the client’s forearm is fixed and the Muscle Meter is close to the practitioner’s body, queue the client to extend their wrist as best they can, holding for 2-3 seconds to achieve peak force production.
- Upon completion, hit save in the Measurz app and compare to the other side.
Normative data for wrist extension isometric strength measured with a Muscle Meter can vary depending on factors such as age, sex, and population studied. However, here are some general normative data for healthy adults:
- Men: Average of 54 Newtons (range 39-69 Newtons)
- Women: Average of 34 Newtons (range 25-44 Newtons)
